The League-Kempner House is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
As such, donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
We are dedicated to restoring and preserving this Galveston architectural treasure.
Our Mission
Restore the League-Kempner house and operate as a historic house museum for the purpose of preserving Galveston history and educating the general public.
Our Vision
Maintain the League-Kempner house as a venue for general admission tours, restoration workshops, age-appropriate educational activities for school groups, and housing documentation and digitization of historic documents related to the League and Kempner families.
Board Members

President
Janie Mitcham
Janie is a retired utility executive with 23 years of experience managing people, complex construction projects and strategic business planning. She and her husband, Stuart, purchased and remodeled 1950’s style ranch houses for over 35 years. Her true passion, however, was always historic homes. She realized her dream in 2013 when she purchased and restored the historic Lucas Apartments located in Galveston. Her education as an engineer and attorney combined with her extensive construction experience makes her the perfect steward for The League-Kempner House.

Treasurer
Letitia Hardin
Leticia has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of early childhood development. She has been a passionate advocate for hands on educational experiences for children and older students. She is registered in the State of Texas as a trainer for educators and has extensive curriculum design experience. She currently works for the League City Historical Society as a “School Marm” in their one room school museum. Leticia’s broad knowledge will be instrumental in designing the interactive educational programs that will be offered at The League-Kempner House.

VP & Secretary
Stephanie Murdock
Stephanie retired after over 20 years of working in the energy industry. Her background as an Industrial Engineer with an MBA led her to excel in managing complex litigation and contract administration and negotiation. Her excellent organization skills, ability to understand regulatory and statutory mandates, and attention to detail will insure that The League-Kempner House organization will comply with all legal requirements and obligations.
